RULES FOR THE COMPETITION


Please read these Rules before you examine any other documents in this package. You must sign each page in this Submission Kit. Thank you for your interest and participation.

  1. The New Enterprise 2001 Award is open only to residents of Georgia. Employees of The Resource Forum, Inc., and all New Enterprise Award 2001 sponsors (collectively "The Sponsors") and any affiliates of The Sponsors or the Panel of Judges are not eligible. Winners will include a Grand PrizeWinner, a 1st Runner Up and a 2nd Runner Up.

  2. All ideas to be considered for the New Enterprise 2001 Award MUST be submitted on the approved forms that are provided upon request of the entrant to The Resource Forum, Inc. OR via the Web site @ www.newenterpriseaward.com. ANY and ALL materials that are received in any other format or by way of any other medium WILL BE DISCARDED AND REMOVED FROM THE COMPETITION AND NOT CONSIDERED IN ANY MANNER WHATSOEVER FOR AN AWARD.

  3. The focus of the New Enterprise 2001 Award is technology. As such, only the following idea categories are eligible for Award consideration at this time :
    a. computer hardware or software b. Internet or E-commerce applications
    c. telecommunications or satellite d. technology consumer products
    e. distribution or P.O.S. systems f. billing /customer service applications
    g. Intranet related applications h. environmental/energy applications
    i. health care technology applications j. "other" technology related

  4. Examples of idea submissions that are NOT eligible for consideration are:
    a. restaurant or retail start ups b. diet/weight loss products
    c. personal care products d. non-technology consumer products
    e. non-technology related services f. catalogs, books, flyers, mailers etc.

  5. The period for idea submission is from October 15, 2000 until December 15, 2000. It is anticipated that the Award winners will be announced on or before January 12, 2001.

  6. Persons who submit ideas may not attempt to contact the Panel of Judges or the Special Advisor to the Judges at any time before, during or after the competition. Any person who violates this provision shall be immediately disqualified from the competition.

  7. It is anticipated that a list of Winners will be available by mail after January 15, 2001 by request to: The Resource Forum, 3340 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30326.

  8. All persons who wish to submit an idea for consideration MUST complete AND SIGN the IDEA SUBMISSION DOCUMENT, the "ABOUT YOUR IDEA" document and THE RULES FOR THE COMPETITION. Incomplete or unsigned submissions WILL BE DISCARDED AND REMOVED FROM THE COMPETITION AND NOT CONSIDERED IN ANY MANNER WHATSOEVER FOR AN AWARD.

  9. The ABOUT YOUR IDEA Document is very important. Please read it carefully.

  10. The Resource Forum, Inc. and The Panel of Judges reserve the right, in their sole discretion to reject all ideas and return the Award monies to our Sponsors should there be a determination that no idea qualifies as Second or First Runner Up and/or the Grand Prize Winner.

  11. (5) Five finalists will be chosen by The Panel of Judges to do an in-person, timed presentation of their idea directly to the panel on or around December 22, 2000. All other ideas will be considered privately by the Panel according to their sole discretion. Each idea submitted will compete with every other idea submitted as the first part of the competition.

  12. Before any submitted idea goes to the Panel of Judges, the name(s) of the person(s) who submit their idea will be removed from the IDEA SUBMISSION DOCUMENT and a control number will be assigned. This is designed to result in an unbiased review of each idea without regard to gender, race, age, sexual orientation, nationality or any other factor that might be deemed to imply favorable treatment.

  13. Multiple submissions ARE permitted AS LONG AS each idea comes in WITH ITS OWN completed submission packet. Teams of individuals may compete AS LONG AS a SINGLE FORM IS USED and ALL TEAM MEMBERS sign ALL documents.

  14. There is a fee of $20. for each submission packet that is completed and entered into the competition. 100% of the proceeds from this fee will be used to offset administration costs of the Award. Any remaining funds (if available) will be added to the cash portion of the Award categories.

  15. All persons who submit their ideas for consideration agree and understand that they do so of their own free will. All persons understand that there is no other implied or stated relationship before, during or after the Award competition between the contestants, The Resource Forum, Inc., the Sponsors and the Panel of Judges except expressly as stated in these RULES FOR THE COMPETITION.

  16. There are (3) three ways to ask questions about The New Enterprise 2001 Award and the idea submission process. You can go to the Web site at www.newenterpriseaward.com. You may also attend [any] of two Idea Submission Workshops to be held on November 8th and December 2nd, 2000 at The Resource Forum. An RSVP is required for these 7p.m. sessions. A final option is to call 404.720.1000 with your question(s).

  17. All cash awards will be distributed to the winners on a "draw system" based on submission of a final business plan and agreed upon actual business expenses. All "value" awards represent in-kind services offered to the winners by the Sponsors and are subject to restrictions placed by the provider of those services including, but not limited to, refusing to provide services to, or participate in any activities deemed to be illegal, immoral or objectionable to the Sponsor.

  18. Each Winner is required to sign the applicable engagement letter of the legal, accounting, and marketing firms (the "Firms") providing the legal, accounting and marketing services (the "Services) prior to work being performed. In the event of an ethical or other conflict based upon the identity of the Winner, the Services may be required to be performed by another firm chosen by The Resource Forum. Representation is available only to the identified Winner and not related parties or affiliated entities. All services to be billed at the hourly rate of the person at the Firm performing the work and otherwise in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Firm. Out of pocket expenses, collateral purchases or similar costs incurred in connection with the performance of the Services are the sole responsibility of the Winner and are not included within the Services portion of the Award. All Services are limited to the normal practice areas of the Firm. The Firm performing the Services expressly reserves the right to refuse to perform services that are illegal, unethical or otherwise create potential liability or compromise in any way the integrity of the Firm as determined by the Firm at its sole discretion.

  19. All values are assigned and approximate.
